Color Wars of 2017
The Color Wars of 2017 was held on Saint Patrick’s day, Mar. 17, was held at 9 a.m. in the main gym. Color Wars is a South tradition that is held every year. The war gives all students a chance in participating as a group to battle against others grade levels during the assembly. All the students from freshmen to seniors dressed in the colors corresponding to their grade. The colors are: green for freshmen, yellow for sophomores, blue for juniors, and seniors dressed in red.
In this assemblage as students came through the doors they were divided into sections on the bleachers based on the colors of each grade. Like every assembly, it began with the choir singing the “Amazing Grace” and a speech by the few people: Riley Tiffin, Casey Stones, coach Lassie, and the athletic director. Next, there was a dance performance by the dance team and then the real battle began with grades competing to see which grade is the best.
The competitions consisted of relay games and Food in the disgusting smooth contest.
The first competition had four volunteers from the audience, two boys and two girls, from each grade, had to pick up oranges with their knees and put in the circle of their grade color located in the center of the gym. The winners of this contest was the sophomores.
In the second competition, four different students from each grade put fruits and veggies on the circle of their grade by handing to it to each other using only feet. The winners of this competition was seniors.
The last competition was called Food in the disgusting smoothie, where four new volunteers raced to the center of the gym to grab ingredients and put it in the a blender. The last person was designated to drink the smoothie consisting quesadillas, chicken sandwiches, French fries, shamrock shake, onion and more. Whatever grade that finished the smoothie first was the winner. The winners were juniors, thank to Alex Sances who was willing to go above and beyond and drink plastic that accidentally got dropped into the smoothie.
